Perfect Picnic Italian Grilled Steak Sandwich

Perfect Picnic Italian Grilled Steak Sandwich

This Italian grilled steak sandwich has all the heartiness of a bread bowl with all the delicious flavors and fresh tastes an Italian style steak salad rolled up into one!

With spring in full swing, we decided that we would bust out the grill for the first time this year and get some nice char marks cooking on our United Steaks of America Halal Sirloin steaks, available here or under our steak tab under beef. Some day we'll do a little history lesson on the United Steaks of America brand that Midamar has, but for now we'll just focus on this tasty little sandwich.

When we first discussed making this recipe, our graphics designer heard that we were planning on using arugula, which lead our whole team discussing our thoughts on arugula. Now, I hadn't had arugula enough times to know exactly what my team was referring to but, they seemed less than excited about using exclusively arugula. Considering we're the ones who mostly eat this stuff when we make it, I decided that we should mix it up! We kept the arugula, but made more of an accent to the salad greens we added to this sandwich. If you feel similarly to my team, I would suggest using a mixed blend of salad greens that fit your preference. After the whole sandwich was prepared, the little bit of arugula that we decided to keep on didn't effect it almost all. The greens gave the whole sandwich a refreshing crunch which I personally liked a lot.

Our next big step was the topping mixture that we made using Midamar's Halal pepperoni. Pepperoni is one of my favorite ingredients, we all know that pepperoni is great on Halal pepperoni pizzas, but it can be used in so many different applications. Great for sandwiches, in various types of pastas, and so much more. In fact, when I was a kid, my dad used to make cheesy scrambled eggs with Midamar's Halal pepperoni almost every weekend. Which was always a special treat for the family and I. Now, I have another recipe I can add to the list of things to do with our pepperoni! For this recipe, we made a topping of sorts that combined green onions, kalamata olives, basil, and tomatoes. At the end, we hit it with a little bit of Italian salad dressing to help bind it all together. I was surprised how great this little topping was. If you added some al dente cooked noodles to this and served it cold you'd have yourself a little homemade Halal pepperoni salad that would be great for get togethers as well as picnics.

After that, this sandwich is as simple as layering your ingredients in a large round loaf of bread that's been hollowed out, wrapped in tin foil, and then refrigerated for a few hours. If you're heading out to a park for, It may be wise for you to slice your sandwich at home and then rewrap it in the cold foil. Other than that, I'd suggest serving this sandwich with some fresh green grapes, some chips, and some cold pop or water!

Whatever you decide to serve this sandwich with, I hope you like it as much as my team and I did. If you did, why not head over to our instagram and let us know what you thought! That's it for us this week, be sure to subscribe to our email list so you never miss out on these recipes. We put out a new one each Friday! Have a good weekend everyone!
