Quick Labor Day Grilled Queso

Quick Labor Day Grilled Queso

This week we're making a quick and easy queso dip for a Labor Day grill out or get together. When I say easy, I really mean easy. We're simply going to place all our ingredients in an aluminum baking dish, throw it on the grill and once everything is melted and mixed, we're ready to eat! But I'm getting a little ahead of myself, let's look at the steps in a little more detail...

To start we're going to cook up Midamar's Halal beef bacon, aka breakfast beef. Some people hear the term bacon and get concerned, "how can bacon be halal? Bacon isn't halal." That was true many years ago but, now-a-days, we have turkey bacons, beef bacons, chicken bacons, I've even seen duck bacon! While most of these other alternatives aren't strictly halal, they can be made halal getting certified and ensuring the animals were slaughtered according to Halal guidelines. Bacon is now a term that describes a process of curing, salting, and smoking meats rather than referring to a specific animal. With that out of the way, once the bacon is cooked to your desired level of crispness, let it cool and cut it into small bite sized pieces. Next comes the ground beef.

This is where we have some options. If you want to keep it super simple and only have 2 things to cook, I would suggest using our fully cooked taco seasoned beef topping. However, for the video we decided to make the taco beef by hand. This way, we can show how to make a version of taco beef at home if that's what you prefer! We start by browning the beef, the we season with cumin, garlic, onion, and chili powders, the finish it with salt and pepper. If you'd prefer this to be a little hotter you could add 1 tsp of cayenne to the beef. That will add some heat but not make the dip too spicy over all. Once that's cooked, we take it off the heat and let it cook for a little bit.

The next step is simply to combine everything in an aluminum pan, set it on a hot grill, let the cheeses melt, give it a mix and you're ready to go!
